Happy New Year

A very happy, healthy and prosperous 2012 to you all.  Not sure if it’s just me, but where did 2011 go?

So far it’s been a thought-provoking week, thinking about and experimenting with new ideas and materials for my work.  On the weekend we went to see the Turner Prize at the Baltic Gallery in Gateshead, UK, and I feel inspired from this to push myself into working or at least incorporating different elements into what I make.  My 6 year old absolutely loved it, we’ve been to the Baltic lots of times in the past, but this time seemed different.  He’s a creative, thoughtful boy and I think the prestige of the whole exhibition just carried him along.  Sometimes we as adults look at a piece of art and search for a deep meaning, whereas a child sees things and meaning in a much simpler way. They are not swayed by what they think they should see or say.  It is this feeling that I want to carry through my work this year, a feeling of freedom and of experimentation but still keeping my aesthetic as an artist.
